On Wednesday, 4 March, St Mary’s School, Goondiwindi celebrated the opening of the first stage of their new secondary campus.  The building was opened and blessed by the Reverend Bishop Robert M McGuckin, Bishop of Toowoomba and Dr Patrick Coughlan, Executive Director: Catholic Schools.

St Mary’s was founded as a primary school in 1911 by the Sisters of Mercy.  The school started the gradual expansion of the secondary school in 2015 and is currently a co-educational Prep to Year 10 school.  With over 430 students, St Mary’s is a growing school.

These new classrooms will provide specialised facilities for the secondary curriculum and additional classrooms for the secondary school.

In the latter half of this year some of the primary school learning areas will undergo refurbishment to facilitate space for digital technologies, inquiry and collaborative based learning, STEM classes, extension and enrichment curriculum.

“These changes are expected to impact on the students, staff and the wider community. By providing improved facilities, we will see improved student outcomes,” said Mr Brett Pollard, School Principal.

“As a part of the school’s Master Plan further secondary school facilities and amenities are planned for construction in the future. This will allow St Mary’s Goondiwindi to provide contemporary Catholic educational opportunities to students into the future.”
