Students from across Toowoomba Catholic Schools have gathered in the Micah Centre at the Toowoomba Catholic Schools Office to prepare for their upcoming external assessments over the holidays.

Around 130 dedicated students from Toowoomba, Stanthorpe, Warwick, Dalby, and Roma have come together to participate in the External Examination Preparation Program (EEPP).

This initiative is designed to give them a competitive edge as they gear up for the external exams starting in October.

The EEPP covers nine critical subjects: English, General Mathematics, Mathematics Methods, Specialist Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Study of Religion, and Modern History.

Mr Paul Herbert, the EEPP Coordinator, shared, “We’ve assembled a team of expert teachers from our Catholic schools to lead students through six days of intensive preparation across these nine subjects.”

“As a diocese, we are committed to excellence in student achievement, and this program is a testament to this commitment.”

Throughout the program, teachers act as mentors, leading sessions on specific subject exams and guiding students in planning and writing responses to practice questions.

They also provide specific examples of how to 'break down' what is expected in answers and give clear guidance on what the examiners are looking for.

Students also undertake mock exams and are given written and verbal feedback to enable them to enhance their knowledge and skills.

Many students have commented that they leave the program significantly more focused and confident, armed with techniques and tips to help them succeed in their final exams.

Rachel Williams from Mary MacKillop Catholic College has taken part in several subjects including Math Methods, English and Study of Religion over the school holidays.

"EEPP has definitely given me more confidence to undertake my upcoming external exams and helped motivate me to study during the holidays."

Dr Pat Coughlan, Executive Director: Catholic Schools said, “The External Examination Preparation Program is a wonderful opportunity available to students to help achieve their best results.”

“It allows Year 12 students to refine their considerable skills and talents in preparation for external assessments.”

“We are very fortunate to have some of our best teachers available for this week of intensive preparation with students,” said Dr Coughlan.

“The fact that so many senior students are giving up their holidays provides testimony to the value of the program.”
